According to Brito, the terminal will serve to agricultural commodities and minerals and general cargo, including containers.
It does not detail the later stages of the equipment. According to José Roberto Correia Serra, general manager of CSN ports, the goal is to provide a terminal for the transportation of cargo that arrive via Transnordestina – which should also be ready in 2018 – both for export and import. “The Pecém is a milestone and a turning point in the logistics point of view in the state. Serra believes that the Pecém has all the requirements – depth of 17 meters, strategic location and adequate infrastructure – to be a port with world-class. With the opening of the Panama Canal next year, the routes will change the logistics and the Pecém enters positively in the port setting, with the business possibilities with Asia, beyond the eastern United States and Europe.
Hub Port (Port Concentrator) is a specialized port in containers that supplies maritime and terminal services to handle and facilitate the transfer or transshipment of containers between vessels and mother ships feeders in the shortest possible time.
